Dear Tumblr, A Request
It’s been bugging me for awhile now that the high-res link underneath photo posts on the Tumblr dashboard vanishes if you add a click-through link to the photo. Since giving credit and linking to sources is something Tumblr should be encouraging at every possible turn, it seems odd that if you do add a click-through link you lose the functionality of viewing the photo in high-res. For a lack of a better word, you shouldn’t be “punished” with poorer functionality for linking your sources. Here’s what I’m talking about:
Yes, if you add a link to the content source box, the post will still include a link to the source, but many Tumblr themes don’t include the content source link in their layouts (while most have the linked images). So to cover all your bases it’s a good thing to put a link in both spots, yet I find myself taking out the click-through link more and more often because I want the Dashboard Dwellers to be able to view photos in high-res.
It’s not like it would require all that much work to fix this either. You could move the click-through link over to the right side beneath the image, for example, or you could have an icon show up when you hover over the image (like the already existing EXIF function). I’m sure the wizards at Tumblr HQ could come up with an easy solution to this in no time.
